Society of Women Engineers Scholarship Program - Instructions for Application (pdf)

This year's Mary Ellen Russel scholarship ($1800) was awarded to Stephanie Baltadonis of St. Martins
University. She is an active student member, has served as SWE treasurer for her student section and
participated in the Region J conferences in Oregon, Alaska and Nevada.

The Shirley Holmgren scholarship ($1200) went to Amanda Jorgenson of Montana State University who has been a SWE member for four years and held position of Vice President (2005-2006) and Treasurer (2006-2007).  She also helps with campus mentoring.

Scholarship judging was done by Jenn Wenthe, Susan Glicksberg and Genevieve Hostbjor. Candidates were evaluated on their scholastic performance, goals, activities, letters of recommendation, need and the essay submitted.

New Opportunity for Engineers

Edmonds Community College has grants available for those interested in studying materials science this fall (funded by the U.S. Dept. of Labor and Industries). http://www.edcc.edu/mtech

Begin earning a degree in Materials Science Technology for future career and educational opportunities in the materials and composites industry helping to make stronger and lighter products such as jets, boats and medical devices.  Pursue a two-year degree that provides the skills for jobs in advanced manufacturing as an engineering technician and transfers for a bachelor’s degree in materials or industrial engineering. Classes meet late afternoon and evenings.

Ask about a new grant available to help students with financial need complete a degree.
