Scholarship Program - Instructions for Application (pdf)
This year's Mary Ellen
Russel scholarship ($1800) was awarded to Stephanie
Baltadonis of St. Martins
University. She is an active student member, has served
as SWE treasurer for her student section and
participated in the Region J conferences in Oregon,
Alaska and Nevada.
The Shirley Holmgren
scholarship ($1200) went to Amanda Jorgenson of Montana
State University who has been a SWE member for four
years and held position of Vice President (2005-2006)
and Treasurer (2006-2007). She also helps with
campus mentoring.
Scholarship judging was
done by Jenn Wenthe, Susan Glicksberg and Genevieve
Hostbjor. Candidates were evaluated on their scholastic
performance, goals, activities, letters of
recommendation, need and the essay submitted.
New Opportunity for
Engineers
Edmonds Community College has grants available for those
interested in studying materials science this fall
(funded by the U.S. Dept. of Labor and Industries).

Begin earning a degree in
Materials Science Technology for future career and
educational opportunities in the materials and
composites industry helping to make stronger and lighter
products such as jets, boats and medical devices.
Pursue a two-year degree that provides the skills for
jobs in advanced manufacturing as an engineering
technician and transfers for a bachelor’s degree in
materials or industrial engineering. Classes meet late
afternoon and evenings.

available to help students with financial need complete
